DescriptionWood frame of four corner posts with top and bottom pieces nailed between them. Posts extend c. 1/2" below bottom pieces. Inside edges of frame pieces, except at door, are chamfered. Door is four pieces of wood nailed together, inside edges chamfered, fits into front, originally hinged on wire loops. Probably had removeable bottom, now missing. Top is solid block carved with sloping sides on outside, hole through center. Chimney is a tinplate cylinder flanged to acone at top, nailed to inside of lantern top. Soldered inside chimney are two baffles. Pierced diamonds and stars in chimney. Loop handle and disk at top held on with coiled wire. Entire lantern, including chimney, once painted black. Outside of frame now red. Glass set in rabbets on three sides, at one time on door as well.
