DescriptionEight day or tall clock. Hickory, white pine, cherry, painted iron, brass, steel. Case is attributed to John Doggett, Roxbury. This clock has an eight-day, weight-driven mechanism with anchor recoil escapement; lunar, seconds, and calendar dials; rack and snail strike; and wooden pendulum rod. The clock has an enameled iron dial with the false plate signed "WILSON" imported from Birmingham, England. The case is characterized by the Roxbury-style fretwork on the hood, inlaid quarter-fans on the doors and base, inlaid crossed branches in the arched waist door, and straight bracket feet. The hood columns and quarter-columns in the waist are highlighted by brass capitals, bases, and stop fluting. There are no engaged columns at the rear of the hood. The second hand has a distinctive pincer-like terminus. The clock's moon wheel is replaced.
