Inserted into top of base is iron upright, squared at base. Pivoting from this on a small metal rivet is a "J" shaped arm of iron, squared, with outer tip in circular point. The connecting ends of the two iron pieces are flattened to form a "pliers" to hold the burning rush, the outer arm acting as a counterweight to keep the "pliers" closed. Bottom of base carved roughly with gouge. Base varnished.
