DescriptionFireplace tongs. Bronze handle hollow cast in halves, brazed together (seams visible). Turnings on handle: long, narrow reel at bottom, ring, tapering round section, ring, reel, large oblong ball with concave band at center, at top two small reels and ball. Connected to circular bell metal pivot section with raised point in center of each side. One arm fixed to pivot section, flat projection at top of other fits inside slot in pivot. Arms are straight, round iron rods which taper and come together towards tips. At bottom they are curved together, flattened and shaped to slightly oval tips.
