DescriptionFireplace or hearth broom (brush). Long handle screwed into center of endpiece at right angle. Handle is turned on lathe, knob with reel at tip, two rings some 7" from tip. Endpiece round on top, holes drilled in bottom. Into holes are inserted bundles of bristles tied with string and tar applied at hole. Handle and end piece painted. Background white or off white. Dark bands and black stripes around handle. Four gold fern designs on handle. To either side of handle on endpiece is a large gold leaf. Black border around edges of endpiece. Varnished over all paint, apparently later.
