DescriptionMaple, caning. Three-back chair, posts raked back; turned back posts with flame-shaped finials, a single vergier mark indicates bottoms of mortices for three graduated arch-top back slates (largest, at top, secured through the back of posts with 3/16" wooden pin), turned seat rail, and two side stretchers; the mark for the lowest stretcher indicates top of mortice for back stretcher. Bottoms of the back posts hollowed and fitted with turned wooden tilters held with leather which emerges from front of posts at the level of the back stretcher. The turned front posts have no vergier marks for turned seat rail and two front stretchers. Seat rails drilled and caned, their round tenons secured through front of front posts and sides and back of back posts with small (1/16") wooden pins. Clear varnish.
