DescriptionDocument box (formerly, bible box). Large box with hinged lid. Rabbetted and nailed together. Bottom of two lapped pieces. Lid hinged with two pairs of interlocking loops. At each end of bottom of lid is a strip which fits outside box when closed. Front and side edges of lid molded (quarter round). Side edges of lid notched above molding. Edges of bottom project from sides and cut at angles. Front and sides of box have two horizontal molded grooves in them. Small piece of wood nailed inside at right front corner of bottom to cover knot hole. Once painted red? On bottom of lid are applied several sheets of paper with writing.
