DescriptionTulip poplar, painted. Single compartment with slanting lid. Lid hinged by means of a pin carved from each upper corner, which fits into hold on each side. All other pieces nailed together. Visible surfaces painted: sides simply painted black, molded edges painted red. Back, front, and lid have black background. Front has three fleur-de-lis, white with red outline and surrounded by red and white dots. Lid has four fleur-de-lis, and border or red and white semi circles. Back has red line at edge and around circle at top, and two ferns. Described also as "salt box."
