Label inside box: "Sword taken by Nathaniel Bemis of Watertown, from a British officer whom he shot on the retreat from Concord and Lexington, April 19, 1775." On bottom of box: "EXHIBITION OF REVOLUTIONARY RELICS. 1876/ Sword taken by Nathaniel Bemis of Watertown, from a Brutish [sic] officer whom he shot on the retreat from Concord and Lexington, April 19, 1775. Exhibited by C.V. Bemis." Inscription in pen on bottom: "Dr. Bemis / Medford"

DescriptionEngraved steel blade. Carved bone hilt in the form of a dog's (?) head. Silver fitting and guard at the base of the handle or hilt. Sword encased in wood (mahogany?). Bullet also inside case with leather scrap underneath.
