MarkingsMaker's name on blade, "U. Clauberg, Solengen". Inscription on sheath: "Presented to Col. E.L. Buttrick, 39th Reg. Wis. Vol. by his friends as a token of their esteem. Milwaukee June 11, 1864." Inscription on guard, "From John F. Wage, Milwaukee, Wis."

DescriptionPresentation sword and scabbard with red silk tassels and sash (inventory 2006 located only the sword and scabbard). Handle, guard and sheath elaborately decorated in high relief. Head of a king, figure of a woman, and an eagle on hilt. On scabbard, figure of an angel holding scroll, "Union For Ever." Inscription on scabbard (see inscriptions). Blade embossed with military emblems and the words, "Always Ready." See A2054, A2056, Pi2001. Civil War.
