DescriptionSilk. Black with white stripe silk chiffon, two-piece dress, bodice (1995.35.1) and skirt (1995.35.2); bodice has ruffle at the neck, full long sleeves gathered at the wrist with ruffle extending below gathers; opening in front but no evidence of buttons, hooks, or snaps--could have been attached to a solid under bodice. Skirt has interesting gathers with cording near waist line and cut-in gores to cling to knees where skirt flares out; small train in back and two ruffles attached to skirt near hem. Lined with lightweight organdy that is stitched in pleats near waist for closer fit. Bodice most likely tucked in and worn with a cumberbund or sash. Description by Dolored Lyon.
