DescriptionMade of pink paper embossed in a design of flowers and scrolls in silver; there is a center panel, lithographed or handpainted, showing a landscape with the figures of two women and two men in Colonial costume; there are two smaller panels on either side of embossed leaves and flowers in silver; fan is backed with shiny white paper with an embossed design in silver; sticks are carved ivory decorated with silver (paint); (one stick has been broken and is mended with white silk thread); white silk tassel. The fan is accompanied by a rectangular, cardboard box with a hinged lid, stored in CS, Box CS-044. The exterior of the box is covered in white paper the top of which is decorated with embossed flowers, leaves and scrolls in silver.
