DescriptionScouring box (or scrub box), tall back panel with low box at bottom. Back panel has long, thin handle at top with circle at top with hole for hanging. Top edge to either side of handle curves down. Top of side panels scalloped; top edge of front panel molded. A section some 4" long of the back panel has been chiseled out between two saw cuts so it is c. 1/4" lower than the rest of the panel. Side panels fit in rabbetts on back, tops of them removed when section of back panel lowered. Three irregular depressions in back panel from scouring flatware. Top two are in section which has been cut out, and are worn through such that there are two small holes in the back. Third is on the thicker section of the back. Front, possibly sides, once painted now dark brown.
