DescriptionA cylindrical hat box and lid made of cardboard covered in paper. The exterior paper is printed with colorful scenes of men and women wearing early 20th century clothing riding bicycles and a horse-drawn carriage in a mountainous landscape. Threaded through metal reinforced gromets on the side of the box are pink silk cords for carrying. The lid and bottom of the box are covered with a dark grey/green paper printed with the text in silver: "Hats by - / Ethel Atkins / 16 Arlington Street / Boston". Stored inside the box is a short hatpin with a pearl embellishement and a black bobby pin.

Original box for COS85.105a: A hat made of blue green (faded to grey) satin trimmed with gold velour leaves and green silk flowers. The hat is "+" cross shaped the points curving inward. The interior is lined with peach colored silk with matching lace trim at the edges. At the center of the interio is a large cloth label embroidered with the text: "Beatrice-Martin / NEW YORK". A smaller label under the green satin floer reads "Ethel Atkins / 16 Arlington St. BOSTON".
