DescriptionLate 1880s - early 1890s silk two-piece dress with bodice (2024.9.1.1), possible ruffle fragment (2024.9.1.2), and skirt (2024.9.1.3). Local or handmade. Example of middle-class daywear. Fabric is cream or tan colored with black stripes and rows of pairs of small rectangles between the stripes. Bodice has three bands of cream colored ribbon with black stiched borders running down from both shoulders. Collar has the same cream colored ribbon with black stitching and a row of lace at the top. Bodice is fastened by a row of pearlescent buttons down the front. A piece of cream colored lace covers the bottons. Large bow at the back with two long tails. Materials and construction details suggest it likely had the same maker as the striped two-piece dress, 2024.9.2.
