DescriptionReceipt from the account book of Jashua Brown, c.1838. Folded paper receipt, written in ink, reads "2 March 1825 rec. of Mr. Jashua Brown / 3 Three [illeg.] or nails / # / 105 = 10 p[illeg.] nails / 118 Six nails [illeg.] / 63 for nails / Townsend nb if [illeg.] cannot sell them all / Mr. Brown will take them back." On verso written in ink, "Joana [?] B[illeg.] son." The account ledger book is bound with glue and thread and contains lined paper. The book is filled with notations written in black ink detailing accounts and transactions paid/owed. He had a shop in Concord that produced kegs made to hold nails. A principle customer, who bought the kegs by the thousand, made nals in Newton. Brown evidently took some of his pay in nails, which he resold to Concord customers. Also contained within the account book are 5 paper receipts.
