DescriptionReceipt from the account book of Jashua Brown, c.1838. Rectangular brown slip of paper, written in ink, "To Mr. Jashua Brown, / Your taxes in Concord committed to me to collect for the year 1848 are / Town and County $22.43 / Parish $4.96 / Pole / Received payment, $2739." The account ledger book is bound with glue and thread and contains lined paper. The book is filled with notations written in black ink detailing accounts and transactions paid/owed. He had a shop in Concord that produced kegs made to hold nails. A principle customer, who bought the kegs by the thousand, made nals in Newton. Brown evidently took some of his pay in nails, which he resold to Concord customers. Also contained within the account book are 5 paper receipts.
