DescriptionReceipt from the account book of Jashua Brown, c.1838. Slip of paper, torn at bottom, top right is dated March 11, 1845, written in ink reads, "In three months for [illeg.] I / promise to pay the president [illeg.] / [illeg.] of the Concord Bank or order at S[illeg.] / Bank one hundred sixty six dollars / $166." Verso has another message written in ink, signed "Jashua D. Brown. "The account ledger book is bound with glue and thread and contains lined paper. The book is filled with notations written in black ink detailing accounts and transactions paid/owed. He had a shop in Concord that produced kegs made to hold nails. A principle customer, who bought the kegs by the thousand, made nals in Newton. Brown evidently took some of his pay in nails, which he resold to Concord customers. Also contained within the account book are 5 paper receipts.
