DescriptionOak chair with walnut finish. Flat back curved panel with rounded back supports and sides. Double wooden buttons on each side of the back support and a rounded contoured back support and seat. Sides under seat have solid wood blocks, tongued and grooved at each end. Front legs are Queen Anne in style. Three-toed paw feet (front two legs); flat and smooth back legs. Leather seat. From collections committee notes: This chair would have undoubtedly been considered "Colonial" in style, a generic term somewhat loosely applied by furniture manufacturers. This chair has claw and ball feet, cabriole front legs, and a solid splat. Allen Chair Company was in business for about fifty years, beginning in 1907 (see maker info). The company specialized in office and school furniture, which they sold in large sets to customers as far away as Nova Scotia. There are photographs of the business (inside and outside), available at the Concord Public Library.
