DescriptionCherry (Maple?), rush. Country chippendale side chair, rush seat. Back posts angled back above and below seat, angled out toward top, tapered above seat, chamfered at back above seat, on inside edge below. Serpentine crest rail, molded and turned back ears. Flat, pierced splat, with four bands at top, vase shape at bottom pierced to suggest heart shapes. Splat seated in rail between back posts just above rear seat rail. Front legs straight, square, chamfered on inside corners, reeded on outside, tops fit into ends of front seat rail, which are shaped and reeded to appear part of the leg. One stretcher each at front, back & sides, all rectangular, slightly rounded at tops, mortise and tenoned flush with outer surface of legs. Stretchers low, feet possibly cut down.
