DescriptionSingle piece of iron, hand-forged. Bottom end (c. 5 1/4" long) is cylindrical (solid). Shaft is octagonal in section, tapers toward top. At top shaft tapers to point and is looped for hanging. Painted black at one time (?). Often called a toddy iron, toddy stick, or loggerhead. Used for heating toddy. The iron was made red-hot in the fire, and then plunged into the beverage.
