DescriptionAttributed to Ebenezer Hubbard. The inlaid stringing of shaded concentric half-circles which occurs here in two different sizes has been associated with the Seymour shops based on its use on examples of their furniture. It was taken for a while as conclusive evidence of their manufacture, but this gameboard has a convincing history of having been made by Hubbard. Eastern white pine, mahogany, birch, holly. The gameboard is a pine board with 1 5/8" birch cleated ends, stained red on the back. A thin facing strip is nailed to the edges. The playing surface is decorated with a checkerboard of holly and mahogany veneer, surrounded by three bands of stringing alternated with two bands of mahogany veneer. A brass loop is screwed into one corner.
