DescriptionMahogany, wood. Pair of chairs (see F1323a). Hepplewhite, shield-back side chairs, overupholstered. Back posts square, tapered, curved back below seats, angled in at bottom. Shaped above seats as supports for shield and then sides of shields. Bowed crest rails. Bottom of shields formed by two pieces joined at point. Quarter circles shapes at pitons. Front of shields and supports molded. Veneer pieces over quarter circles, carved with five rosette petals on stamped backgrounds. Pierced and carved splats with design of two oval bars, center bar that divides as a plume, rosette at center, plume at top, festoons between rosette and plume ends. Side seat rails curve out, front serpentine. Triangular corner blocks. Front legs square, straight, tapered.
