DescriptionAlbum quilt, patchwork quilt. Potholder and other quilt as you go construction. Cotton pieces cut in all patterns, backed in unbleached muslin. 28 squares with floral dark brown border and strips between some squares. Predominately pink and brown. Pattern: Sampler. Autographed by friends and family of Margaret Wyer Locke, probably upon the occasion of her marriage, which took place in July 1837. This quilt, which dates to December 1837/January 1838 suggests a leave-taking (based on the inscriptions), indicating that the couple was departing or moving.
