DescriptionBrass and glass. A circular, brass bowl lined with 1 blue and 8 brown butterfly wings. In original pasteboard box with checkerboard design in purple, black, pink and gold. Original letterpress flyer in box: "Butterfly Art/ Store No. 4/ 23rd St. Bridge/ Worlds Fair [Chicago, 1933]/ Every article in the store is made from the wings of the beautiful blue South American butterfly. From the smallest 50 cent ring to the largest picture nothing else is used but the genuine Morphos Menelaus and Morphos Rhetenor. These butterflies are collected by skilled hunters in the jungle land of British, French and Dutch Guiana, shipped to London England in special containers there to be arranged by English artists into pictures, trays, compacts and jewelry of all description."
