DescriptionWalnut veneer on spruce. "Transition to the Chippendale style". Elaborate crest and scroll, extending down the sides of the frame. Pierced and gilded cartouche in the center of the upper cresting. Two glasses, hand beveled, the top one lapping over the lower. Moldings are a narrow outer beading, a cyma, and a carved and gilded molding next to the glass.

The front surface of the frame is veneered. The gilded ornament at the center of the crest is carved from a piece of spruce inserted behind the crest; its projecting elements have broken off. The frame members are lapped together at the upper corners and mitered and nailed together at the bottom. The crest and side brackets are glued to the frame members, with reinforcing vertical and horizontal glue blocks. the outside scroll on the right side bracket is a replacement. An old, possibly original wrought-iron hanger is attached to the center of the top frame member. The two-piece backboard is now secured with linen strips.
