DescriptionPortrait of a man, shoulders and head, turned slightly proper right. Dark jacket and neckcloth. Oval mat with gilt boarder. Lock of hair at bottom of oval (Henry D. Thoreau's hair). Narrow black wood frame decorated with fine white lines, a conventionalized flower in each corner with a spray of leaves on either side. Glass is broken in two places, upper right corner.
