DescriptionAmbrotype of John Garrison (1815-1872), son of Concord resident Jack Garrison. Embossed leather case (one half missing), brass hooks for closure. Brass frame, scalloped edge. No glass. Image of an African-American (black) man. White hair, dark jacket and waistcoast, white shirt and dark necktie. He appears to be holding a walking stick, the top curve of which is just visible above the brass frame.John Garrison was a resident of the Robbins House in Concord, Mass. He was among the first people of African descent to be elected as First Parish tythingman and Surveyor of Highways.
