DescriptionDocuments (1 letter and 2 envelopes) associated with watch PER2194.1.1. With the watch is an envelope addressed as follows: "Documents of Mr. Thomas H. Howard, No. 133 W. Springfield St., Boston, Mass." Inside is another envelope, addressed: "Mr. G. Edward Kimball, % Mrs. George F. Kimball, No. 29 Naples Road, Brookline, Mass." Addressed to: "To my dear Nephew, Thomas Hartshorne Howard. [signed] Very truly your uncle, Lucius B. Marsh." The watch belonged to Ezekiel Marsh, of Danvers, which he had in his pocket on the 19th of April 1775 at the battle of Lexington, and fought the British on their return from Concord and Lexington. He had with him a Spanish fowling piece, which could carry a ball equally as well as a shot. From Mass. Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, p. 243, vol. [?]: "Marsh, Ezekiel - Danvers./ Private, Capt. Caleb Low's Company which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775 (service not given." "The double case watch which you now have, my father had on and before he was the captain of the militia company in Danvers. My father retired as captain in 1810. In 1812 while in command of the minute men of Danvers during the war with England, my father carried this watch."
