DescriptionOne of two stencils. This one reads, "Frank E. Bemis. / CO . G, 47 Mass. Reg." "2042" written in ink written between "Frank" and "C O G." Two brass stencils (.2 and .3), vial of ink (.4), and tin-handled brush (.5) all in an unpainted tin box (.1). One stencil reads "H. B. G. WHEELER / Co. G, 47th Mass. Regt."; the other, "FRANK B. BEMIS / Co. G. 47th Mass. Regt." The box and items inside are marked "2042". Civil War era. Used to identify a soldier's belongings.
