DescriptionPetition. "To His Excellency Francis Bernard Esquire Captain General and Governor in Chief...of the Massachusetts Bay..." Assembly of the House of Representatives. Application in 1739 by Seth Sumner, a brother, and the representative of a deceased brother to have their father's (William) estate divided. Account of Edward Sumner's incorrect division of the estate (he received nearly double his due); Seth Sumner had tried for 20 years to rectify the situation, but without the cooperation of Edward, this application is made to the superiors court of judicature at their next term in Boston to rectify the said mistake. Following notations: A Oliver, Secretary (ordered that Edward receive a copy of the petition and be given a chance to argue his case); James Otis, Speaker of the House of Representatives (April 8, 1761, petition read and concurred); John Cotton, Secretary (the parties have agreed and petition set aside accordingly).
