DescriptionPapers regarding the estate of Martha Buttrick. In 1907, lawyer George W. Batchelder of Lowell contacted C.A.S. to negotiate the bequest of Miss Buttrick to the Society, on the condition that the items be displayed in a seperate Buttrick family room (correspondence on file). In 1909, Miss Buttrick passed away (copies of her will on file). In the 1960s, Miss Buttrick's niece, Miss Helen Buttrick contacted the society regarding her belief that the Society was not fulfilling its obligation to exhibit the items as required by the bequest (correspondence on file). The rest of the papers are correspondence and arguments in this regard, including the letters regarding the disposition of two items (clock and mirror) that had been loaned to Helen Buttrick in 1911 (see D2058.1k also).
