DescriptionEarthenware. Cream colored paste, lead and flint glaze, heavily blued. Transfer printed in black over the glaze. Print is surrounded by bands of lilac lustre. Design shows a ship in full sail, with steam boat in the background. On a cliff at the right are the symbols of American freedom of the seas, viz: The American spread eagle beneath a pennant of laurel and stars, and an anchor below. English potters did not hesitate in this way to sacrifice their own patriotism to the chances of securing American patronage.
