DescriptionSteel, walnut, silver, nickel alloy mounts. Small size; boy's rifle. Half stock rifle, caliber around .38, percussion lock, octagonal barrel with metal rib underneath. Engraved silver plaques depicting a dog and a pair of quail inset into the stock and the patchbox, opened with a concealed spring, has an engraved German-silver cover. The removable rifled barrel hinges into the breech; the gun was probably sold with a second, unrifled, barrel now missing. The rifle was converted from flintlock to percussion in the nineteenth century. A peep sight is missing from behind the breech.
