DescriptionBlack velvet bodice made in Paris (maker's label inside bodice reads, "Robes & Manteaux / Mme A. Brun / 62 Rue Boissiere / Paris). Bodice has late 1870s-1880s shape with late 19th century beaded garment of unknown origin pieces together and attached to bodice in early 20th century. Beads are organized in geometric patterns in red, white, blue, and metallic on the front and across a band that perhaps went across the stomach. There are additional metallic embellishments on the cuffs and back of the collar that are different from the other additions, but unsure if they are original. Perhaps part of an outfit consisting of a skirt (2.2024.2.4), cap (2.2024.2.2), and apron (2.2024.2.3) that may have been similarly altered and used in theatrical performances.
