DescriptionMilitary helmet in a Prussian parade uniform style used by the Massachusetts Militia (?).The exterior of the helmet is covered in black (possibly dark blue) wool with a shellacked leather brim and red silk lining. The hat is dome shaped with a Prussian style spike at top, with a base of oak leaves and acorns in gilt stamped brass. At the front of the hat is a large heraldic eagle with crossed rifles and a "6" on shield. At the back of the helmet is a smaller shield shape with a hook. Attached to the bottom of the helmet is a chin strap made of a brass chain backed with black leather. The strap is secured on the sides with buttons featuring a crossed rifle motif.
