DescriptionSilver brazier (a), basket with several rows of punched perforations, three silver flanges for holding a second vessel, and a lignum vitae handle. 1 grate (lid) (b). Braziers were used for holding heated coals.

Three flanges at the top of the basket allowed another vessel to rest on top of the brazier for heating. China or pewter would have been affected by the heat, so most likely a silver porringer would have been used. Silver porringers were used to construct sauces at the table.
