DescriptionEmbroidered window curtain, Jacobean crewel-work (reproduction). Embroidered by Mrs. Edward Motley (Mrs. Harford Powel), 1935. Six window curtains for room 5 were designed and stamped by Mrs. Lillian Barton-Wilson of New York from a piece of rare old Jacobean embroidery now used as a chair covering in Miss Choate's museum at Stockbridge. The design and coloring are faithful copies of the original. The linen is hand-woven Bolton cloth made in England in exactly the same weave as the old. It comes only in white, and has been dyed for our curtains to the mellow color of old pieces. The cost of materials and of having the design stamped was undertaken by Mrs. George Metcalf of Concord.
