MarkingsHandwritten in ink on inside of pin cushion: "Died at Concord on the 2d, and was respectfully entombed on the 5th inst. Mrs. Phebe Bliss, the pious relict of the rev. Daniel Bliss, former minister of that town, deceased, in the 85th year of her age. She had been a tender and solicitous wife; a fond and provident ---[illegible]; a firm and faithful friend. But the prominent feature in her character, on that for which her memory will ever be embalmed, was a love of holiness. Repentance and humility towards God and faith and confidence in Christ, seemed to progress her whole soul. Her love & gratitude to an unseen Savior were ardent; his words and promises were her study and hope; his disciples were her best friends; his table was her richest repast; his prayerfulness and resignation were her example: his crop was her chief glory; his resurrection was her greatest joy and triumph. Blessed are the dead, who died in the Lord; for they rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.----Boston, july 6, 1797."
