Markings"This chemise (spelling?) also came from Grandmother Rowe's-whether it was part of her wedding dowery or of earlier date (as seems possible) I don't know. It, however, attests to the industry and careful workmanship--hours of labor. I believe this apron was from Lydia Flint Clarks--the two night caps, as was the blouse--Lydia, the wife of John Brooks Clark died in 1865--Look in family records for exact date, A native of Concord the family lived for some years in Walpole. Pantalets from Grandmother Rowe's home probably made by grandmother and saved as memory of her lost child who died in Maine while visiting her grandmother there--she always stroked my hair saying, 'Poor Emma, Poor Emma' when I was a child."
