Object numberCOS50.33.1
DescriptionRed (twill-weave) wool cashmere robe (house gown), paisley print and buttons up front. Buttons are ornate, larger at bottom than top. Middle buttons are false (not functioning closures). Wrapper with seperate cape (COS50.33.2), cape lined in silk with purple fringe trim and tassels. Very similar, same printed wool, as Cos50.33, but different owner.

This type of house gown or wrapper was quite common and worn at home during the times visitors were not expected, during a pregnancy or while caring for a newborn. These garmets were usually worn without a corset and extra petticoats.
