DescriptionStoneware, salt-glazed. Scalloped edge with engine-turned border in a design similar to that found on silver of the period. Enamelled over the glaze in colors, red and green, in a pictorial design showing a man on a ladder picking fruit (apples?) from a tree and throwing it into the apron of a girl standing below. May be a crude copy of Lancret's "Cherry Pickers", a design occasionally found on Chinese Lowestoft and evidently popular with painters on ceramics in the last half of the 18th century. Shallow section, no foot.
