DescriptionBrass, stamped and embossed powder flask (powder horn). Brass top, thumb piece and mechanism for adjusting the flow of powder. A metal ring on either side, has a green cord and tassels. Identical to the "Shell" design powder flask produced mid 19th century by the American Flask & Cap Co. Used for a shot gun. Mid 19th century (possibly Civil War). Made by the American Flask & Cap Co of Waterbury Connecticut. It appears in their 1864 product catalog (see The Powder Flask Book by R. Riling page 206).
