Description2006.363.1-.8: eight porcelain dinner plates commemorating the centennial celebrations of the Battle of Concord. Made by Worcester for retail by Richard Briggs, Boston. Each with a sepia transfer reserve depicting the famous bridge at the site of the Battle of Concord, with a banner reading, "April 19, 1775-1875." Eight with bleu celeste and Greek key borders, monogrammed "ERH" for Ebenezer Rockwood Hoar.
The plates were specially commissioned by Ebenezer Rockwood Hoar (1816-1895), Attorney General under President Ulysses S. Grant from 1869-1870, and of the prominent 18th century Massachusetts Hoar family. Commissioned for an elaborate banquet of distinguished guests, held at the Hoar estate in celebration of the Battle of Concord.
